Movember Origins
In 1999 a story aired featuring a group of men in Adelaide who claimed to have come up with idea of growing moustaches for charity in what “snowballed into a Mo-phenomenon, with people across Australia joining up”. Like all great ideas it was thought of in a pub but was originally to raise money for the RSPCA by “Growing whiskers for whiskers”.
This story however has been contested by a group in America known as the “Moustache Celebration Federation” who claimed they coined the term Movember as early as 1977 however it was later found that neither the federation or it’s apparent president actually existed.
Since 2004, the Movember Foundation charity has run events to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer and depression, in Australia and New Zealand. In 2007, events were launched in Ireland, Canada, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece, Spain, the United Kingdom, Israel, South Africa, Taiwan and the United States.
Movember Aims
“The funds raised in the UK support the number one and two male specific cancers – prostate and testicular cancer. The funds raised are directed to programmes run directly by Movember and our men’s health partners, The Prostate Cancer Charity and the Institute of Cancer Research. Together, these channels work together to ensure that Movember funds are supporting a broad range of innovative, world-class programmes in line with our strategic goals in the areas of awareness and education, survivorship and research.” – Movember website
Movember at 4Ps marketing
2011 is the first year that 4Ps Marketing is participating in force. There are 7 fearless Mo Bro’s participating in Movember this year each with their own hilarious/manly/hideous/dyed facial hair styles – it depends on the participant. Together with the backing of everyone in the office these Men of Movember are striving to raise money and awareness for testicular cancer for the Movember Charity.
We’ve been taking regular pictures of everybody’s facial hair progress, which can be seen on the 4Ps Marketing Facebook Page, with which we’ll be putting together a choice piece of moving picture to celebrate our participation in Movember.

Average Mo’s Dodgeball Extravaganza
In light of the month of Movember we at 4Ps thought the perfect event with which to raise money for Movember would be dodgeball which led to the birth of the Average Mo’s Dodgeball Extravaganza!
