Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 by Jack MclarenFashion PPC – Louis Vuitton latest victim of Google
Thursday, September 24th, 2009 by Chris HylandGoogle has won its latest legal battle against the high profile fashion company Louis Vuitton. The luxury goods group has tried to stop the leading search engine from selling the rights to sponsored searches, also known as pay per click , using trademarks to rival companies.
Louis Vuitton were confident that they would get a favourable result, however the European Court of Justice (ECJ) said Google has the rights to sell companies brands, such as Louis Vuitton, in its “sponsored links” search section to competitors. This is not the first case of its kind as Google allowed companies to bid of previously protected brands back in early 2008.
Louis Vuitton and other brands have accused Google of profiting from the success of their brands by selling the valuable search term to discount retailers, and more specifically with no reference or links to the trademarks website.
A law firm spokesperson from Wedlake Bell, said: This opinion, if followed by the court, will be a major defeat for brand owners and would mark victory in Europe for Google’s point of view such a ruling cannot be overstated. The prospect of damages has vanished.”

Duplicate content advice released by Google
Friday, September 18th, 2009 by Gerard HarrisThere’s something almost mesmerising about Google’s webmaster blog videos. Apart from being incredibly informative, they also seem to be able to grab my attention in the same way that a big budget Hollywood blockbuster does. I’m rapt from start to finish to the reasoned tones of the Google engineers and self professed geeks. Their recent video on duplicate content issues is no exception and provides an excellent overview on the importance of avoiding duplicate content where possible and tagging necessary duplicate content appropriately to avoid confusing Google and your potential visitors.
