Even before Apple CEO Steve Jobs, presented the Apple iPad to the world at the end of January this year, the anticipation was evident. Infegy.com claimed that ‘in wake of the news, social media felt a massive influx of iPad related posts, tweets, mashups as Apple endured praise and criticism from all over the world.’
Not only has social networking been one of the best things in the promotion of this new and exciting gadget, but it is one of the reasons to buy it. At the core of this piece of technology there are endless amounts of applications through which the user can connect to friends, family and colleagues. With its 10 inch touch-pad screen, mobile size, and now a longer battery life of ten hours; it has all the elements to succeed for the keen social networker.
Despite criticism suggesting that the iPad would stifle innovation in mobile technology, amidst fears that Apple would eventually monopolise the market, I think society invites this kind of advancement, as it means there are less and less limits for the user. With time spent on social networks rising by 82% in December 2009, it came as no surprise that this was one of the main tools used to spread the buzz of the new Ipad, and it also promotes the fact that accessibility to these is clearly an important aspect.
It has been difficult not to get absorbed by the Microsoft vs Apple battle, but the iPad really offers something that is user friendly (visually and functionally), and limitless in its performance, with regards to social media, there is nothing comparable.
Here at 4Ps Marketing, technology is at the forefront of everything we do; hand in hand with social media, it helps us move forward every day.
