Bill Gates Exploring Social Media
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is now officially part of the Twittering population.
You might be forgiven for viewing this news with scepticism, as Gates has previously been the subject of many impersonations and fake accounts. However, the Twitter account has been verified and you may rest assured that this account is genuine.
Rather appropriately, Gates’ first tweet included the words “Hello World”, a reference to the traditional “Hello World” programmes that are often written by people attempting to learn a new programming language.
A “Hello World” programme seems to be unnecessary however, as Gates appears to be learning the language of Twitter fairly quickly. He amassed over 100,000 followers in just eight hours and has already Twittered about the launch of his new website.
Perhaps one of the attractions of Twitter for Gates is that it can be as one-sided as you need it to be. Though he now has a Fan Page on Facebook , also confirmed to be genuine, Gates was forced to close down his ordinary account with the social networking site last year after being inundated with friend requests. And after seeing the speed with which his followers on Twitter have mounted up, it is little wonder why the Facebook account became unmanageable.
