Facebook Changes “Become a Fan” to “Like”
Maybe it is a sign that I spend far too much time in front of a computer, but every time Facebook changes, my life is thrown into panic.
How will I ever find out the latest gossip now if I cannot seem to find my profile?! It is the social media equivalent of leaving your desk in its usual organised chaos at the end of the day, only to come back the next morning and find that it has been tidied and you haven’t got the faintest idea where anything is.
My behaviour is very predictable whenever Facebook changes its interface; I storm onto the search function (As soon as I can find it!) and join every single group that is demanding a return to the previous interface. The result is just as predictable, the new interface remains firmly in place, despite my grumbling and a few months later, I have decided it is not so bad after all.
New Facebook changes are afoot but fortunately, they are unlikely to throw my life into chaos in this time. A month back, Facebook began phasing out “Fan Pages” and changing “Become a Fan” to “Like”. While this may seem like a small and purely semantic change, the changes will, amongst other things, include a universal “Like” button that webmasters will be able to place on their websites. Should this become successful, it would expand Facebook’s influence beyond its own domain and make it more than a just a destination website.
With concerns rife about privacy on Facebook , these changes may well provoke a level of outcry far beyond that which comes as the result of every annoying new interface.
