Facebook Pages for Business: Why Do Consumers ‘Like’ Them?
As brands realize that it is increasingly important to be active on the online social space in order to engage with their consumers, it becomes more important to understand the habits and actions of your consumers online. Talking specifically about the behaviour of Facebook users and using Facebook pages for business; this article will attempt to answer the question – Why consumers ‘like’ or become a fan of Facebook pages?
According to a recent report released by ExactTarget and CoTweet, it is the social badges and discounts that users receive as a result of liking a Facebook page which are the motivators behind their actions. Supporting this statement, the report goes on to say that nearly 40% of users become fans to receive discounts and promotions from a brand; and 39% do so to show their support for a brand to their friends.
Two things are important here; firstly it emphasises that although a brand should not represent themselves as a ‘giveaway gremlin’ 100% of the time; offering incentives and rewarding users for their affiliation should be an aspect of the Facebook strategy.
