Google Readies Google Offers: A Groupon Alternative?
Google Offers will be launched, Google’s alternative to Groupon, after they offered unsuccessfully to buy Groupon for a reputed $6 billion! Since refusing the sum Groupon went on to secure $15 billion IPO investment. Having seen the success of Groupon’s business model and not wanting to miss out, Google are planning to release their own alternative called Google Offers.
Users sign up for email alerts which are delivered to their inbox with the special deal being based on their locality. Google are in the process of signing up small businesses. This will not mean the end of Groupon but it doesn’t guarantee the success of Google Offers either. All too often we have seen Google bring out new products only for them to flop. They are still trying to get their social network off the ground.
With Groupon’s 50 million worldwide email subscribers Google has a lot of work to do. The strategy and launch rolled out by Google will seal its fate. Google already has a massive network (Adwords and Adsense being the main ones) available to their advertising platform so they should be off to a perfect start!
While Google readies Google Offers we will just have to wait and see!
