Groom Tweets at the altar

Despite our growing dependence on the internet, it’s a generally held belief that there are some times where updating your status on Facebook or Twitter should not be the first thing on your mind. For most, standing at the altar, saying your wedding vows is one of those times.

But that proved no deterrent to Dana Hanna. The software developer from Maryland held up proceedings long enough to update his Facebook status and to Twitter: ‘Standing at the altar with @TracyPage where just a second ago, she became my wife! Gotta go, time to kiss my bride.’

The entire scene was filmed and uploaded to YouTube , immediately provoking a fierce debate on the issue. Some claim that it made a mockery of the sanctity of marriage, while others praised the couple for their sense of humour. Mr Hanna said that ‘it was just done to be funny’ and states on the YouTube video description that most of the family found out about the engagement via Facebook.
