ITV Broadcasts Coronation Street Online
ITV is the latest major Broadcaster to air programmes exclusively online since it was announced earlier this year that online advertising spend has overtaken television advertising for the first time in the UK. The channel has commissioned three episodes of Coronation Street to be shown only online, with adverts displayed around the content.
These webisodes are to be produced by ITV’s Digital Productions branch and will be hosted on itv.com from today. Each programme will be performed using the same script, but with a different interpretation of character Tony Gordon’s conscience shown. Although the words will be exactly the same in each episode ITV aim to create very different performances for each webisode set to emphasise the dramatic climax of the Tony Gordon storyline shown on television.
This is another example of television media’s shift to online broadcasting which can only continue to increase as consumers continue to move online for their television viewing, shopping, socialising and dating; causing advertisers to follow.
