Mark Zuckerberg and Dustin Moskovitz join the “Giving Pledge” initiative
Mark Zuckerberg and Dustin Moskovitz, founders of social networking giant Facebook, have joined the growing list of wealthy individuals who have vowed to donate considerable amounts of their fortunes to charity.
The “Giving Pledge” is an effort by billionaire couple Bill and Melinda Gates, as well as investor Warren Buffet. It serves to encourage the wealthiest families and individuals in America to donate their earnings to philanthropic causes or charity organisations. Warren Buffet has pledged to give away 99% of his wealth, while the Gates family puts their fortune into the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Once a person decides to make the pledge, they are invited to write a letter explain the reasoning behind their choice, as well as announcing their decision publically. The names and letters of these individuals can be viewed on the “Giving Pledge” website.
Zuckerberg is the most recent billionaire to join the list and in so doing, he vows to donate up to half of his wealth to charities either during his lifetime or after his death. This decision comes after numerous donations to different philanthropic causes by Zuckerberg since his escalation to fame and fortune.
Since Moskovitz and Zuckerberg launched Facebook in 2004, the Social Media Industry has grown massively. Today, businesses can not afford to ignore the effects that Social Media can have on their business. Facebook pages for business are a good example of how companies are promoting their goods and services through these channels. Social Media Optimisation is an important activity that should be incorporated into a business’s online marketing strategy.
