Online Media Advertising Education for Children

There have been a number of discussions on the need for Primary schools to educate children to help them become more ‘media savvy’, some believe that media literacy needs to be taught to children from the age of five besides the traditional subjects of Maths and English

Digital Adwise is just one of the new ‘media literacy’ programmes available from MediaSmart; the non-profit organisation for school children between the ages of 6 and 11 years old to help them become ‘media savvy’.

Media Education Website

MediaSmart launched in 2002 to provide educational material to primary schools free of charge, aimed at educating children about advertising and digital content; helping to build a media literate generation in the UK. The website includes sections for kids (where they can access educational games, quizzes and downloads), and sections for parents and teachers.

Digital Adwise offers children a range of free online lessons, which attempts to make them aware about advertising and digital content in an interactive way.

Becoming ‘Media Savvy’ should be seen as an important area of education as it is estimated that the children in Britain spend on average five hours and 18 minutes a day watching television, playing computer games or online.
