Online Reputation Management
There is a famous saying in PR, bad news spreads quickly, and in the advanced digital world of the 21st century, this could not be more applicable to the search world.
More and more clients are approaching us about managing their reputation online or Proactive Reputation Management if you like. There have been a lot of cases where companies for whatever reason have mismanaged some aspect of the business online and the bad news has spread like wild fire through the social media networks.
Habitat are probably the best example of this, if you type into Google “habitat twitter” you will see lots of unfavourable PR stories about how an intern spammed Twitter to try and achieve more traffic to the website. He decided to use trending topic #hashtags at the start of their tweets to get noticed but targeted sensitive subjects such as the Iranian election. As you can imagine this did not go down too well, the intern has now left the company and this has had an adverse effect of the reputation online for Habitat. They are now a good case study of ‘what not to do online’ which is one of the reasons I am writing about them now!
However the good news is that there are lots of ways to combat this, especially through search engine results. 4Ps Marketing use a combination of Online PR, Article Marketing, & Social Media Optimisation to publish useful & positive information about a client, therefore outweighing the positive stories about the company over the negative stories.
