RSS for SEO

With the world of SEO marketing continuously evolving, more and more industry experts are pointing towards RSS feeds as a plausible strategy for improving SEO. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication, and in this context a feed is a set of web links to recently updated content on a website. Many people tend to confuse an RSS feed for a blog, however the main difference between the two is that an RSS feed has infinitely more possibilities, including being able to show news headlines, stock levels, search results or upcoming events. To receive an RSS channel, users must have a feed reader, with an example of a free RSS reader being the one provided by Google.

How do RSS feeds aid SEO? Simple – industry related RSS feeds from other companies or websites can be implemented on your website to ensure the constant refreshing of content. This is important because Google spiders love crawling new content, and this is a sure fire way of keeping your site updated with minimal effort. This is not as beneficial as writing your own unique content obviously, but regularly updated relevant content can be useful.

For the same reasons, it can be beneficial to create RSS feeds for the purpose of link building, as other industry related companies and bloggers may include your free RSS feed on their sites, creating links back to your webpage’s. In addition to this, the anchor text used on each link can be written to include keywords and improve overall keyword targeting. RSS feeds also benefit the users too, as they provide an easier way for them to access the site, and ensure current visitors keep coming back.
