Tag Cloud
The probability of coming across a tag cloud is very high when visiting various websites. Recently more and more companies have started using tag clouds, especially community ones such as Del.icio.us and Technorati. Tag clouds are a visual depiction of a collection of words that appear in different font sizes and colour. The larger and darker tags portray priority compared to the lighter and smaller ones. These tags might be user-generated or automated.
Some of the benefits of using a tag cloud are:
• Tag clouds provide readers a glance of what your website is about.
• It can be used as a navigation mechanism – If readers spot something of interest, they can click through to that piece of content.
• Tag clouds help search engines understand what your website is about.
• Depending on preference, tag clouds can help to give a cleaner look to your website.
How to add a tag cloud to your website:
There are many websites that offer tag clouds for your company or individual website. For a user generated tag cloud, you can enter the keywords manually or enter your website URL to generate an automated one. You also have the option to set the language of the text, maximum number of words that should appear, word count next to the word and block the appearance of infrequent words. Once generated, you are provided with HTML code that you can embed within your website. After embedding that code, your tag cloud will be ready to be published.
