Social Media costing the UK economy billions

Research by the job site myjobgroup.co.uk took a poll of 1000 UK workers of which almost 6% admitted to spending over an hour on social media sites everyday while at work. This translates to 2 million of the UK’s 34 million strong workforce dilly-dallying with social media like Facebook and Twitter instead of doing what they should be for more than an hour every day. This loss in productivity has been estimated to be costing the UK economy up to £14 billion. (more…)

Google Set to Revolutionise Sports Broadcasting

Google is all set to broadcast a major sports event live on YouTube for the very first time. Google and the Board of Control for Cricket in India have struck a two-year deal, giving Google exclusive online rights for live and on-demand access of matches from the lucrative Indian Premier League on YouTube . Google Patent Suggests YouTube Could Offer Interactive Gaming

YouTube could be looking to offer Interactive Gaming based on a Digital Video. A patent that was filed in February 2009 and was released to the public very recently revealed Google’s inclination towards building games on top of existing online hosted videos using an interactive annotation system. Google has now launched a Promoted Videos feature in the UK which will combine the search engine’s own pay per click ad format with the YouTube video search. The new YouTube video ads will function in the same way as Google’s existing paid advertisements; they will be priced on keyword performance and advertisers will be charged by the click.
