Blog Verification
Google has moved to clarify the steps webmasters need to take in order to verify their Blogger blog in Webmaster Tools. The step by step guide has been provided following the recent news that changes have been made to the verification system in Webmaster Tools.
As a result of these changes, the automatic verification link built into the Blogger dashboard no longer works, and so blogs hosted on Blogger will require manual verification. While Google is working on re-enabling this feature, they have released the steps as a guide for those who are unsure how to do it manually in the mean time.
If webmasters first go to Webmaster Tools, click on ‘Add a Site’ and enter their blog’s URL and click continue then they will be taken to the verification page. By selecting ‘Meta tag’ and copying the Meta tag shown, the second step is to log into the Blogger dashboard and go to the blog you’re editing. By then clicking ‘Layout’, followed by the ‘Edit HTML’ link, users can then paste the Meta tag they’ve copied after the <head> tag and save what they’ve done. Finally back on the verification page in Webmaster Tools, selecting ‘Meta tag’ as the verification method and clicking ‘Verify’ will ensure the blog has been verified.
